Broadcast Journalism

While Augusta is a small school, we have incorporated different representations of broadcast journalism whenever possible. Sometimes this means one or two people putting together a video, or potentially the entire staff will collaborate on one video.

As one of my first forms of broadcast journalism, I created a trailer for the school musical "We Will Rock You" performed Nov. 12-13. I took videos of several rehearsals as the show progressed from September to November and visually displayed the growth of the performers in a video format to advertise the show. Before my senior year, we had not done much with videos as part of our content; however, that is something I've begun to incorporate. Most of the skills I have, I have learned myself through YouTube tutorials and playing around in Premiere Pro.

To help my staff learn how easy it was to incorporate videos into what we do, I sent everyone on staff in pairs to talk to athletes from each fall sport. They chose an approved person from each sport and asked them the same set of questions. Then, all the videos were uploaded to our Shared Google Drive where my co-editor, Maddie Smart, put all the videos together. While I did not specifically edit or film, I instructed the staff, accompanied one of the staff members to record their video and assisted when needed throughout the process.
