Reporting & Writing
The process I go through to write a story is unique to me as a reporter. Every part of the reporting process-- interviewing, the structure of my articles and even the tone of voice I use is personal to me and my style of writing.
Cancel Culture - Interview with Tiffany Hilton
In my junior year, I wrote a story about cancel culture and the way people throughout the school viewed its effects on society. During this interview, I sat in the library with Tiffany and asked her my questions. The way I interview people is different from other people: I turn on Otter, my recording app, set my phone down and talk to the source as though we are just having a conversation. A lot of people become nervous while being interviewed, so by keeping my phone out of the way and just talking to them, it allows me to calm their nerves and receive better answers to questions than if I was just staring them down and always looking at my phone while we are talking. I do my best to be friendly by smiling and making small talk before the interview has even started. Also, if possible, I take them somewhere quiet so they will not have to worry about other people.
